The project explored how design could respond to textile waste and the short lifespan of consumer products. Inspired by the principles of the circular economy, I wanted to investigate how unwanted materials could be given a second life rather than discarded. Research into creative textile reuse, particularly through Pinterest, led me to experiment with transforming discarded fabrics into functional and personalised book covers.
I explored different fabrics, patterns, textures, and colour combinations while learning sewing techniques through hands-on experimentation. As sewing was new to me, I adapted my approach through trial and error and worked within the limitations of the materials available.
The final outcome was a collection of three handmade book covers created from repurposed fabric. Each cover gives unwanted textiles a second life while introducing individuality to an everyday object.
Undercover demonstrates how upcycling and handmade production can extend the life of existing materials while creating something personal and distinctive.
